We often get the question of “How often should I have my sewer lines cleaned, if at all?”

How Often?

We recommend getting your sewers cleaned every 1-2 years depending on age and last time pipes were checked.  If you notice any problems you should call a plumber immediately and request a video inspection of your pipes.  After inspection, your plumber will decide if it just needs a routine clean or if there is damage, a repair.

Warning Signs

Dirty pipes aren’t the only cause of a sewage blockage or back-up.

Roots: You may be surprised to learn that the number cause of sewer line damage or blocks are directly related to tree roots penetrating the pipes. Once penetrated the tree roots will continue to grow within the pipes until all space is taken up.  A video inspection will help identify if this is an issue.

Bellied Piping:

A bellied pipe is just a technical term for a sagging pipe.  This can occur when part of your piping system slopes downward creating a “belly effect”.  This issue usually occurs when the soil around the piping becomes brittle or loose and causing your pipe to sink. Once the pipe sinks, waste will build up in the bellied area.

Grease: There is a reason you see people have a grease jar in their kitchen. Grease is one of many foods and by-products of cooking that are awful for your plumbing. Grease does not dissolve or degrade.  So, the grease will turn solid and form an impenetrable blockage in your piping.

If you suspect your sewage line is blocked or backed up or that there may be some damage to the plumbing please call A&R Plumbing, Heating, and Air to have one of our highly skilled technicians help diagnose your issue.  (806) 372-1572.
